The page hosts the Drone Safety Team's new guidance on safety management systems (SMS) for drone operators. The Drone Safety Team is an FAA and industry group, and NCAT (the National Center for Autonomous Technology) hosts the page. The guidance was approved in July 2026. It's voluntary and consensus-based, aka what our mega-corp leadership wants.

Full disclosure, I have some issues with the process. This is not an FAA publication, and they are only loosely affiliated with this process. Not all FAA invitees were allowed to participate, dissent was discouraged and poorly handled, and the facilitator made no bones about having the authority to override the FAA. It was kind of the same with the AUVSI AAM/UAS symposium. No direct control over a process meant to bolster the safety of the NAS.
Anyway, I only had limited fire-drill participation, and I heard assumptions from companies that lobbied for safety cases try to codify questionable, scientifically unproven practices. However, we as a community don’t want to condemn the whole program because some funded folks want to game the system, again. Instead, I encourage those aiming to scale their Part 108 business models to download this “stuff” and put it to good use in their waiver and exemption requests.
The information lets mom-and-pop preface their requests with boilerplate like this. A Jesus Take the Sticks Drone Delivery Company (or whatever your drone company name is) is just looking to get the Amazon, Walmart, Wing, Zipline, DoorDash waiver and exemption treatment, nothing special. We are using the same secret safety sauce as them to develop and implement our hypothetical safety case.
Variations on these notions may also come in handy after you have a few mishaps with a crane, apartment building, wire, deploy the parachute on the freeway (only if the FAA makes you use one), start a grass fire, etc. Your particular mishap may vary, but the investigation process shouldn’t.
As an aside, and in the Drone Dominance vein, companies using domestically made drones should get front-of-the-line concierge service (30 days tops), waiver, and exemption service. This isn't new; it was part of my published Drone Czar Proposal from years ago.
